Titanium welding is both an art and a science. It demands precision, patience, and an understanding of metallurgy that takes years to develop. Here’s a look inside our fabrication process.
The Challenge of Titanium
Unlike steel or aluminum, titanium is extremely reactive when heated. Expose it to oxygen at welding temperatures and it becomes brittle and weak. This is why every titanium weld must be performed in a pure argon atmosphere—both inside and outside the tube.
Our Welding Process
Each Simpatico frame is TIG welded by hand. Our welders use a technique called “walking the cup” to create the distinctive stacked-dime pattern you see on our frames. This isn’t just aesthetic—it’s the sign of proper heat control and penetration.
Quality Control
Every weld is inspected visually and tested for structural integrity. We maintain detailed records of each frame, including the welder, date, and any notes about the build. This traceability ensures consistency and allows us to continuously improve our process.
