At Simpatico, we exclusively use Grade 9 titanium (Ti-3Al-2.5V) for our frames. Here’s the science behind that choice.
Not all titanium is created equal. While “titanium bike” has become something of a marketing buzzword, the specific alloy used makes an enormous difference in ride quality, durability, and longevity.

Why Grade 9?
Grade 9 titanium, also known as Ti-3Al-2.5V, contains 3% aluminum and 2.5% vanadium. This specific composition gives it roughly twice the strength of commercially pure (CP) titanium while maintaining excellent corrosion resistance and weldability.
The aerospace industry has relied on this alloy for decades in hydraulic tubing and other critical applications where failure is not an option. We believe your bike frame deserves the same standard.
The Ride Difference
What does this mean for your ride? Grade 9’s unique properties allow us to create tubes with thinner walls while maintaining structural integrity. This translates to a frame that’s both lighter and more compliant than frames made from lesser alloys.
“The difference between a Grade 9 frame and a CP titanium frame is like the difference between a hand-built wheel and a machine-built one—you feel it on every ride.”
Our frames undergo extensive fatigue testing to ensure they’ll provide decades of reliable service. That’s the Simpatico promise: a frame that rides beautifully today and will continue to do so for generations.
